APS Update!

APS had a wonderful September and a great start to October.  Our teachers, students, volunteers and staff worked extremely hard to make APS a wonderful place for learning.  We also were able to have a good time with Chic-Fil-A Spirit Night and Farm Day.  APS also had the privilege of having Author Michael Finklea as our special guest.  Our school closed out September with a wonderful Kid's Day on the Farm and our October is starting off with a bang as well.  We are currently hosting our annual KidCheck.

I would like to give a special thanks to Mr. Moore and family at Chic-Fil-A for allowing us to benefit from another Chic-Fil-A Spirit Night.  Please go by and see them and Eat More Chicken!

Michael Finklea paid APS a visit.  He was great with the children and did his part to spark an interest in  reading.  Please look him up on the web at www.michaelfinklea.net/

Thank you to AHS FFA.  Heath Golden and Gary Aycock have done a wonderful job the last four years in hosting our APS Farm Day.  The teachers look forward to it every year as do I.  It was a great learning experience for our children.  Albertville should be very proud of your FFA students.  They did a great job in hosting each animal station.  We also had many local volunteers help with the special event.  Thank you very much to all that helped.

APS annual KidCheck is a great event that occurs for the our students' wellbeing.  Thank you Nurse Dana, Nurse Beasley and Nurse Starkey for your hard work.  I would also like to thank everyone that took part in making KidCheck a success.

Please check back for updates on APS.  Thank you

Chic-fil-a, Maw Maw and a Guest Author!

Hello everyone,

The teachers, staff and students at APS are working so hard.  We are starting to settle into a groove.  The children seem to love APS because they have great teachers.  I love to walk into a classroom because the teacher can't wait to show me how and what the students are learning.  I want to assure parents that our staff has been working very hard to provide a high quality safe learning environment.  In addition to the great things that happen everyday at APS, we have a few special events coming up.

Chic-fil-a Spirit night for APS is coming up on Thursday from 4:00 to 9:00.  A portion of the proceeds will go to our school.  Please come out and join us in Guntersville at Chic-fil-a this Thursday.

Starting next week, APS will be celebrating Grandparent's Day.  Please review the information your child's teacher will give/has given you for the date and time for that particular class.  Grandparents, please bring the student's visor card.  You may have to get the visor card from the parent.

On Sept 23,  APS will happily welcome children's author Michael Finklea .  Please look for his books online or at our local public library.  We are very excited for this opportunity.

Please do not hesitate to contact me at APS if you have a concern.  You can reach me at 256-878-6611 or ahampton@albertk12.org

Have a good day!

Greetings to all!  I hope you are having a great summer.  I look forward to seeing teachers, students and parents in just a few short weeks.  It is an exciting time of the year as we prepare ourselves for the challenge ahead.  Every day I see teachers that are eager and preparing their room and materials to make this a great school.  I can hardly wait for the year to start.  Please remember, set high expectations for yourself.  All teachers have high expectations for students, great ones have high expectations for themselves.  All students have high expectations for teachers, great students have high expectations for their own performance.  Together, we can make this the best year ever at APS.

A Night of the Arts/Courage Carnival

APS is no longer bird crazy but still buzzing like bees.  We have some exciting events coming up and have just finished others.  The teachers are still working diligently to help children to maximize learning.  Please take the time to thank your child's teacher.  Our APS faculty and staff truly love students and work hard to do what is best for them five days a week plus many weekends.

The Night(s) of the Arts was a great hit.  Tracey Rogers and Ramona Hall do an outstanding job and spent many hours in preparation for the two nights.  The children performed well and put on a great performance.  I am not going to list all who helped in fear of leaving someone out, but all involved did a great job.  Ms. Hall is truly buzzing like a humming bird all the time.  Her student art work makes this large facility a beautiful school.  I truly miss the displays during the summer months.  Great job!

Our annual Courage Carnival is coming up as we team up to fight cancer.  I am one of the chosen few in the dunking booth this year.  I am looking forward to making the students happy but I would be lying if I told you getting dunked is fun.  I look forward to Friday and having a great event.  Misty Brothers has put a great amount of preparation in helping this event raise money to fight cancer.  Thanks to everyone who is helping out.

I would like to say thank you to teachers/staff for making APS a great place to work.  We often get bogged down with the responsibility that comes with being in education.  It encourages me to know that our job has meaning.  Our life's work has an impact for years to come.  You make a difference everyday.  The kids that you teach reading and math will use those skills for the rest of their life.  Take heart in knowing that you don't have to worry if your job makes a difference.   You know this because that is why you wanted to be a teacher.

YAM 2013/Chic-Fil-A/Desoto Caverns

Good Morning,

APS has been buzzing as of late.  Our outstanding ART program, led by Ramona Hall, has turned APS into a bird sanctuary.  We have wonderful art work displayed throughout the school created by our students.  I also witnessed my first flash mob on Friday before spring break after some outstanding performances in the cafeteria.  Thank you APS teachers and students for making this a fun place to work and learn.

Our 1st graders had a wonderful time at Desoto Caverns this week.  I had the opportunity to go Wednesday and enjoyed the trip.  Our children were great and I was very proud to be an administrator for APS.  APS teachers kept the students organized and safe.  I would like to thank Debbie Howell and  all teachers that helped in making this a great learning experience for our 1st graders.

Chic-Fil-A Spirit Night for APS was Thursday Night.  APS packed the dining hall.  The extremely nice employees of Chic-Fil-A told me that we brought more support than any other school.  I told them, "It was our pleasure." Thank you students, teachers and parents for showing your love for APS.  Thank you Mr. Bob Moore and Chic-Fil-A for your support of APS and other local schools.

I look forward to finishing the school year strong.  We will have more activities in the coming weeks.  Please encourage your child to stay focused on learning and and performing their best.  Have a great day.

Dance Across the Decades

Hello APS parents and students,

I would like to thank our PE teachers and PE students for such a great dance program.  Coach Baugh and Coach Barkley were very tired by 11:00.  The kids were outstanding and put on quite a performance.  Our special service teachers and staff also played a large part in making today as safe as possible for our students.   I can't wait to see it again next year.  If you were unable to attend, you missed a great show!
